At the beginning
of the stories you notice a particular thing with one of the members of the
houses. They keep everything that happens in the house quite, yes, it’s the butlers.
Throughout
the stories, they give little detail on them, but what we know is that they’re
completely loyal to the owners of the house. From the corpse in Emily’s bed to
the taboo themes in the house of Usher. It’s quite scary to say the least. To
have crazy people near you but someone covering for them, is quite uncommon…Moreover,
the fact that they completely trusted the owners, knowing the deficiency they
had is interesting. Because you normally do not like or trust someone you do
not know how they react under different circumstances. Yet the Butlers
completely trusted the Ushers’ and Emily.
To
conclude, we live in a world where some times these sorts of things happened to
people with mental incapacities, either by fear of discrimination or being
treated like something less, so the family entitles someone to take care of
them and that spikes a strong sense of loyalty to the patient. Nevertheless,
they had to put the patients in a mental institute so they could get the help
they needed from the Ushers to Emily.
